The right skincare for men – why soap and water are not enough
Unfortunately not, because men's skin differs significantly from women's skin. This is mainly due to the male hormone testosterone. Testosterone makes men's skin about 20% thicker than women's skin. It also produces considerably more sebum. That's why men's skin is often oilier and has larger pores than women's skin, and it is also more prone to blemishes. Women, on the other hand, have to deal with wrinkles earlier because of falling estrogen levels – less estrogen leads to a reduced capacity to store water and lower sebum production. Many people are surprised that the skin's protective barrier is more permeable in men than in women. As a result, men's skin is quick to redden and is somewhat more sensitive.
But what does the right skincare for men look like?
Our Skinthetics Cosmetics basic routine
In the morning:
In the morning, your skincare routine should start with a mild cleansing gel, followed by a pH-neutral toner. Only once the face has been properly cleansed is the skin ready for shaving. After that, depending on whether your skin tends to be dry or oily, you can apply a cream, fluid, or gel to optimally supply your skin with the moisture that is right for it.
And above all – don't forget sun protection! Not just on your face but also on your neck and ears and, if your hair is thinning, on your scalp. It not only protects your skin from premature aging but is also the best protection against skin cancer. Men often go on to develop many precursors of non-melanoma skin cancer (known as actinic keratoses) on the uncovered scalp and ears later in life.
In the evening:
In the evening, a cream or fluid should be applied after cleansing. Skin regenerates at night and should therefore be given the best possible support.
It is also important to exfoliate your skin once a week to free it of dead skin cells and stimulate blood circulation.

Are anti-aging products only for women?
Anti-aging products are important for men and women alike to protect the skin from premature skin aging. And it doesn't take much to give your skin optimal support. We at Skinthetics Cosmetics recommend applying an antioxidant such as vitamin C to your skin in the morning before your face cream. This protects the skin from free radicals. Free radicals are aggressive oxygen molecules that can damage our skin cells. External influences such as pollution, cigarettes, or UV radiation lead to the formation of free radicals. Antioxidants neutralize these free radicals and thus prevent damage to our cells.
Do men need cosmetic treatments too?
Regular cosmetic treatments are important for men and women alike to achieve and maintain the best possible condition of the skin. At Skinthetics Cosmetics, it is very important to us to take time for you, not only to discuss the ideal treatment for your skin with you, but also to actively treat skin problems and clear up any uncertainties about skincare routines. Men are more prone to blemishes than women. Their skin also often has larger pores and is oilier. To tackle these problems, a HydraFacial can often achieve quick and long-lasting results – but it is also always important to choose the right products for your skin – because we care about your skin.
