Who doesn't dream of always-smooth legs and hair-free underarms…
IPL stands for intense pulsed light. We offer IPL hair removal at the Skinthetics medical practice, which is located in the same building. The concentrated energy of a light pulse is directed all the way down to the hair root. This damages the hair follicle and hair root. For the skin and the surrounding tissue, however, the treatment is usually very gentle.
The greater the contrast between skin and hair, the more effective the treatment. The best results are achieved with light skin and dark hair. Hair is best removed during its growth phase. You should shave a few days before the treatment. Ideally, the hairs should be 2-3 mm long. Unfortunately, light blonde and white hair do not respond to IPL treatment because they contain no dark pigments (melanins). We also can't treat tanned skin. If you are taking medication that increases your skin's sensitivity to light, please let us know before the treatment.
And where can IPL be used? In principle, all over the body! Besides the legs, underarms, and intimate area, treatments on the face are especially popular, as are treatments on the chest, back, buttocks, and abdomen for both women and men. Of course, we also treat shoulders, arms, and feet, wherever you have unwanted hair growth.

Is it actually painful? Yes and no! The treatment causes a slight stinging or burning sensation, but it only lasts a short time. The pain is less than with a needle prick, for example. In most cases, local anesthesia is not necessary. If you don't feel up to it, though, just talk to us! Of course, an anesthetic cream can also be applied.
You won't see any results right after the treatment. Sometimes the hairs fall out over the following weeks. How many treatments are needed depends on your hair and skin color, skin thickness, hair thickness, and pigment content, as well as on the sensitivity of your skin.
By the way, IPL treatments can be done all year round. Just make sure you don't sunbathe with the freshly treated areas for the following eight weeks, and be sure to use a sunscreen with a suitably high protection factor. Otherwise, there is a risk of an unsightly darker or lighter shift in pigmentation. However, this is usually only temporary and gradually fades again with less sun exposure.
