Under-eye patches – just an Instagram hype?

Right now, social media is hyping under-eye patches – they are supposed to make dark circles and puffiness vanish like magic in a few minutes. A few influencers have even teamed up with cosmetics brands and launched their own under-eye patches.

But do under-eye patches really help?

For most of us, it starts at 30. Unfortunately, we don't just see dark circles and/or puffiness after a heavy night of partying. On top of that, fine lines start to join in – and at some point, not even concealer can help anymore.
Dark circles are often caused by poor blood circulation and a lack of oxygen. This is often brought on by stress, lack of sleep, nicotine, alcohol, and UV radiation. With puffiness or bags under the eyes, a hereditary slackening of the skin usually plays an additional role as well.

Under-eye patches can genuinely be used as little SOS tools to help us look fresh again as quickly as possible.
That's because they not only provide extra moisture but also cool this very sensitive area of skin. Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, coenzyme Q10, retinol, niacinamide, collagen, and green tea help with fine lines and pigmentation. Caffeine gives us a refreshing boost, and panthenol helps with puffiness. Please remember to always apply under-eye patches to cleansed skin. Generally, you should apply your favorites about 2-3 times a week so they can take full effect.

If you don't have any under-eye patches at home right now, you can also make a DIY version yourself quickly and easily. Here are a few of my favorites. Simply place them on your closed eyes and relax:

  1. Brew green tea bags and then put them in the freezer – afterwards they are wonderfully cool, and green tea has an antioxidant effect
  2. Brew fresh coffee, soak cotton pads in it, take them out, and let them cool. This wakes your skin up again.
  3. Slice a fresh cucumber and place the slices on your eyes. Cucumber provides extra moisture.
  4. Apply quark under your eyes – it's great for reducing swelling

Just try it out at home, whether you buy the latest under-eye patches or make your own DIY version at home. The Instagram hype is justified here, and dark circles and puffy eyes are quickly gone again.
